A person who laced candy with tranquilliser and distributed them to minors at a summer camp in the area has confessed to sexual offenses against two boys aged nine and 10.

Jon Ruben was detained after eight minors and a grown-up fell ill at the facility in mid-summer.

The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the judicial center on the end of the week.

Nevertheless, he denied a single sexual charge he was facing, which was against a nine-year-old child.

The defendant was remanded in custody before a additional proceeding on late November.

'Candy game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, detailed the criminal behavior to the court.

She stated his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a summer program which he operated.

The defendant conducted a "treat game" with the minors, the legal counsel stated, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".

She stated to the judge the defendant had played this game with the boys "for many years", and children had earlier experienced illness the next day.

She explained the man had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had concerns in summer 2025.

The legal representative continued: "Recently" his family member had concerns about the activities, for good reason.

"They resolved" to investigate in the individual's items."

The prosecutor explained materials including lubricant, petroleum jelly and injection devices were found, and his stepson alerted the law enforcement about his concerns.

She stated the defendant proceeded to play the "candy game" with six boys that time - July 26th - and they were all sick the subsequent day.

"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that point," she added.

The police watchdog, the investigative body, previously told that it was examining law enforcement's management of the events.

The legal representative stated the minors were struggling to walk due to their condition, so the family member called the police once more.

She stated the defendant then played the "sweet game" in a room of five children.
